Wellness Wednesday | The Start of My Journey | Clayton, NC Family Photographer

It was May 11th, 2013.  Mother’s Day weekend and we had taken a short trip to Kure Beach, NC.  We had tons of fun relaxing, playing in the sun, going out to dinner, and making memories!  I was happy!  Or at least I thought I was.

It wasn’t until we arrived back home and went through our photos from our short vacation that I realized that I didn’t look or feel healthy.

I wasn’t caring what I put into my body.  I’d have that 2,000 calorie milkshake from Cookout, and wouldn’t have thought twice.  I wasn’t active, and I felt sluggish.  How could I have let this happen?  I was 31.  And my youngest child was 4 years old already!  I couldn’t pull the baby weight card any longer.

That is when I decided that I was going to make the change.

The year before I had bought the Beachbody Insanity workout dvd’s.  I had started it, then after going to MN for a vacation I never stuck with it.  So, I dusted them off and started the workout program all over again.  I’m not going to lie and say it was easy.  I can’t believe how TIRED and out of shape I really was!

Was I overweight when I started? Maybe a few pounds.  Was I out of shape?  Definitely.  I also know I wasn’t eating well at all.  That was also a change I made at the same time as starting the workout videos.  (I’ll touch on those changes in my diet in upcoming Wellness Wednesday posts).

Are you ready to make healthy changes?  What can you do to start? Let me share with you 3 simple steps to start.  We shout it as a group at the end of every workout at CrossFit Clayton.

1. Want.  It all starts with WANTING to change.  Whatever, the reason may be you just need to want it.

2. Choose. Choosing to start, whether it be with walking.  Not drinking soda.  Just CHOOSING to take action in whichever way possible!

3. Committ. This is the hard part for most of us.  Committing and staying focussed on your goals.  Surround yourself with other individuals who have similar goals and that will encourage/motivate you!  Decide to succeed, and hold yourself accountable.  And tell yourself ” I WILL”!

So stick with me every Wednesday to see the changes I have made in my journey.  What I do to stay fit, healthy, active, and even what I eat!

But, for now I’ll share the photo that made me change the way I took care of myself.

Take Care of Yourself!!

Sharleen - I started a health/wellness plan last year right before the photographer’s Fall Rush. I sadly fell off the wagon, but I miss how energetic and refreshed I felt working out and eating healthy. I am going to start up again after we move to our new location, I’ve heard amazing things about Beachbody and I am going to look into that :).

Dogs Are Family Members Too | Fun, Natural, Family Photos | Clayton, NC Natural Family Photographer

Anytime I get asked if clients can include their pets in their session it’s always a YES!  Pets can definitely be challenging, but one thing is for sure…they’re apart of the family!!  So, I’m glad the Riley family decided to have their two pups in their photos (well a few of them).

We honestly had the BEST weather for being the second weekend in December.  We played in the leaves, went on a little nature walk, did some cuddling and called it a day!!  I know I probably say this with every session, but it’s true… I absolutely loved how all their photos turned out.  It totally captured every moment of them being themselves.  And that is what I love about my sessions.  No two or three are the same but portaits every family and person uniquely.

Enjoy the Riley family’s photos!  And if you’d like more information on how you could book your own session please message me!!

Pregnancy Progression Series| Week 37 | Final Maternity Shoot

With Baby Brynlee’s hovering due date so close to Christmas I wasn’t able to be here to capture weeks 38 and 39.  So, here is the last week that I was able to capture before the beautiful Brynlee made here debut!  I certainly enjoyed watching Lura grow, the birth announcement, and the gender reveal.  Such great moments documented.

I’d like to thank the Temesy family for allowing me to be apart of these moments.  Ya’ll are a beautiful family.  Much love and blessings to you and your new bundle of joy!!

On a side note…I can’t wait to meet the new Babe and take some lifestyle photos of her SOON!!!

Fun, Funky, Fall Family Photos | Yates Mill | Clayton, NC Natural Family Photographer

Meet the Tabor’s!  Philip, Holly and Addison.  Pretty much the coolest bunch you’d ever meet.  When Holly asked me to do their photos for them this year I was BEYOND excited.  I knew that she would add her own style to their session, making it totally them.  And totally FUN!  I was coming up with locations that I knew would suit their style but, Yates Mill stuck out as our favorite option.  I was a little hesitant though, because if you’re a photographer and it’s your busy season you know that there are going to be a TON of people there!  Which really didn’t bother us too much.  We just carried on and did our own thing having some laughs, some twirling, and some spinning!  I definitely fell IN LOVE with their session…the weather, the lighting, the laughs totally captured them perfectly!  Leave some love to show how much you enjoy The Tabor Family’s photos!!

Pregnancy Progression Series | Week 35 | Clayton, NC Maternity Photographer

With only 5 weeks to go Lura is in the home stretch of her pregnancy!  And I do have to say….she looks AMAZING!!!  I can’t believe that little baby Brynlee will be here next month!!  And this weeks fruit/veg was a honeydew melon!  Also, Kitty just HAD to get some attention in again.  So, much so that I had to hold her and shoot at the same time so she wouldn’t be in ALL the photos! 😉
