My Littlest Swimmer | Raleigh Children’s Photographer

With these 100 degree feeling temperatures I’ve been taking the girls to the pool to soak up the last bit of summer!  I’ll be honest though, I love fall temperatures and I sure won’t miss the humidity!

Of course when my oldest was signed up for swimming lessons, so was my youngest. (She HAS to do everything big sister does)  So, of course I had to capture her moments of pool time on “film” as well.

This girl has NO fear and pretty much tells you to “let go” and let her do it.  (I’m sure this is a huge indicator of what I’ll be dealing with when she gets into her teen years, but I don’t even want to think about that yet!)  Her bravery and determination will never cease to amaze me…at the same time scare me!

Hope ya’ll are making the best of what little summer time we have left!  SOAK IT UP!

Summer Time Swimming Lessons | Raleigh Children’s Photographer

We are closing down on summer.  And before you know it, it will be time for school to begin.

My girls really enjoy any second they get to go to the pool and go swimming.  If we could go every day we would.

I think it is an important skill for kids to learn how to swim.  Not only is it beneficial for health and wellness, but you never know when you might need to be able to swim.

With that being said, we decided to sign the girls up for swimming lessons at our athletic club.  I was hesitant at first because I used to teach lessons myself and thought that I could do it.  But, trying to teach your own children during regular pool hours is near impossible.  Besides, I think they learn better from someone other than their own parent(s).  Even though, I did catch myself slipping in my two cents worth of constructive criticism to my oldest every once in a while.

My oldest is still getting the hang of all the strokes, diving, and rotary breathing.  Once she gets that down (or close enough) she is really wanting to join the swim team.  I’m excited to see where she goes with her love of swimming.  Had I not grown up in a small town in MN learning how to swim in the lake (which was only swimmable maybe 3-4 months out of the year), I’m sure I would’ve been on a swim team myself.  I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree when it comes to the love of the water and swimming.  It is definitely one of my favorite things to do as well.

Where did you learn how to swim?  What do you remember most about your time in the water?  I’d love to hear your stories!

Welcome Baby Berlynn | Raleigh Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

This little sweetie has the most adorable name!  And it certainly suits her!  Mom, Dad, and Big Sis couldn’t wait to meet her!  Big Sis of course is beyond excited, and is already eager to hold her every chance she can get!

Her nursery was decorated in one of my new favorite color combos; navy and pink!  It’s like royalty meets girly!  The light was just flooding through her windows which I loved!  But, Mom already has plans for some room darkening curtains for when she moves into her nursery full time!

I loved capturing this portion of her session.  You can just see the adoration in Mom’s face, and how content Baby Berlynn was in her arms.

Thanks for letting me be apart of capturing your family in these first few days of life.

Horseback Riding Lessons | Raleigh Child Photographer

Way back in November I saw a Groupon for horse riding lessons.  I thought that it would make a great Christmas gift for our girls (4 & 7).  So, I went ahead and purchased them.  Our family would rather get out and DO things and to have an experience/make memories rather than HAVE things.  Christina at Dreamwood Farms in Wendell, NC was a great instructor.  I like that it was small and inviting.  It was a little bit of a drive for us to get there from where we live, but that was ok because I took the “scenic” route.  On the last lesson day the girls made Christina cards and brought their horses a treat (apple slices).  I’m going to miss the little weekly drive with our packed lunch to riding lessons.  But, should the girls ever want to do lessons again I know where I’ll be taking them!

Maternity Maven | Raleigh, NC Maternity Photographer

I have been so blessed to have been able to photograph so many beautiful mommies to be!  I feel like I get to be apart of that moment in their lives, and it is really special!  It always amazes me how much of a miracle pregnancy and birth really is!

I loved finally meeting Ashley and her family for their maternity session! (We had become facebook friends after I purchased some Thirty One items from her!)

We connected easily and always had something to talk about…especially our fear of snakes.  And then wouldn’t ya know it? We came across a copperhead as we were moving to another spot for photos!  Talk about almost sending mama to be into labor and giving myself a mild heart attack!  Derek (dad to be) was daring enough to go back for a quick snap with his camera phone! (NOT ME!)

I can NOT wait to meet their little girl who will be making her debut VERY soon!  So be on the look out for newborn photos come July!
